Proscar (finasteride 1mg, MSD) is used to treat men with male pattern hair loss, to increase hair growth on the scalp and prevent further hair loss. Before starting treatment with Proscar, discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor. Tell your doctor about any medicine you may be taking or any adverse reactions you have experienced with other medication. People who are allergic to any of the ingredients of the medicine should not be taking Proscar.

Women who may be or are pregnant should not take Proscar, or handle crushed or broken tablets because of the risk of a certain type of birth defect. If the active ingredient in Proscar is swallowed or absorbed through the skin of a pregnant woman it may cause a male baby to be born with abnormalities of the sex organs. No serious medicine related adverse effects were reported during clinical trials. Most commonly reported were decreased libido (1.8%) and erectile dysfunction (1.3%).
